History

Founded in 1973 by a group of University of Minnesota graduate students (Libby Larson and Stephen Paulus) as the Minnesota Composers Forum, the American Composers Forum has grown from a regional initiative into a national composer service organization. The Forum manages more than a dozen national programs, maintains a network of regional chapters across the country, and supports composers through granting, commissioning, and performance programs.

Members

The Forum's 1,700 members include composers, performers, presenters, and organizations with interest in supporting new music. Forum members come from both urban and rural areas; they work in virtually every musical genre, including orchestral and chamber music, "world" music, opera and music theater, jazz and improvisational music, electronic and electro-acoustic music, and sound art.
