History

Atmosphere is a Minneapolis hip-hop group. They originally formed around 1994 under the name Urban Atmosphere. In the beginning, the group consisted of Spawn (emcee), Slug (DJ), and Ant (Producer). After Spawn (aka Rek the Heavyweight) left, after Overcast was released, Slug switched to emceeing. Since then, the group has gone through a variety of DJs, the current one being Mr. Dibbs (Brad Forste). They have released five main albums, along with a variety of shorter projects on CD, vinyl, and tape.

Atmosphere has been considered to be one of the most sucessful and influential underground hip-hop groups. They are best known for Slug's (Sean Daley) poetic lyrics and their down-to-earth style. Atmosphere songs often focus on women, Slug's favorite subject, but often devulge into politics, emotions, and other personal musings. Slug and Atmosphere tend to be very humble about their status, sometimes to the point of depression and self-deprecation. Ant's production tends to be simplistic and bare-bones, although it has gotten more experimental and full with Seven's Travels.
