History

Atmosphere originally formed around 1994 under the name Urban Atmosphere. In the beginning, the group consisted of Spawn (emcee), Slug (DJ), and Ant (Producer). After Spawn (aka Rek the Heavyweight) left, after Overcast was released, Slug switched to emceeing. They have released five main albums, along with a variety of shorter projects on CD, vinyl, and tape.

Atmosphere has been considered to be one of the most successful and influential underground hip-hop groups. They are best known for Slug's poetic lyrics and their down-to-earth style. Atmosphere songs often focus on women, Slug's favorite subject, but often diverge into politics, emotions, and other personal musings. Ant's production tends to be simplistic and bare-bones, although it became more experimental and full with 2003's Seven's Travels.
