History

Brother Ali is a Minneapolis hip-hop artist. He is a strange looking person, and some would describe him as ugly. This comes up often in his rhymes, and here is the description he gives of himself in the song "Forest Whitiker":

Dependin on the day, and dependin on what I ate
I'm anywhere from 20 to 35 pounds over weight
I got red eyes and one of them's lazy
and they both squint when the sun shines so I get crazy
I'm albino man, I know I'm pink and pale
And I'm hairy as hell, everywhere but fingernails
I shave a cranium that ain't quite shaped right
Face tight, shiny, I stay up and write late nights
My Wardrobe is jeans and faded shirts
a mixture of what I like and what I wear to work

He does not let his physical features disadvantage him, though. He is able to create deep, emotional songs, and his stage presence has been compared to that of a gospel preacher. His lyrics often focus upon pain, religion, the music industry, and life in general.

Brother Ali is on the Rhymesayers label, and has worked with Ant, Slug, DJ Abilities, and others. His music is generally vocally based, without much rhythm backing him up.
