Dylan Hicks is a musician who now writes for City Pages.

History

Hicks was born in Austin, Texas, and has lived in Minneapolis since 1983. In the late ’80s and early ’90s, he hosted jazz, hip hop, and variety shows on the community radio station KFAI. Throughout the ’90s and in the early ’00s, he led rock bands under his own name, and released three CDs on No Alternative Records, two forty-fives on Prospective Records, two self-released cassettes, and contributed to several compilation CDs. In the early ’00s, he started working as a journalist, generally writing about art and entertainment. He held various editorial positions at City Pages in the mid-’00s, and has freelanced for the Village Voice, the New York Times, the Star-Tribune, and other publications. His short fiction has appeared in the Rake, Dislocate, on the website Pindeldyboz, and in Da Capo Press’s Best Music Writing 2007.
