History

I, Colossus began as a collection of songs from Aneuretical singer/bassist Matthew Sandstedt. He eventually began to record these songs at his home studio and created a Myspace page in late 2005 to publicly release them under the name "Ampersand". In Spring 2006, Matthew asked longtime friend and former Aneuretical bandmate Scott Johnson to join his project as a guitarist. Over the Summer of 2006, Matthew and Scott practiced together on a weekly basis, getting a solid lineup of songs together for a first show. That first show occurred on November 2nd, 2006 at the Turf Club in St. Paul. I, Colossus opened the show performing as Ampersand, and shared the stage with good friends Ladyslipper and labelmates Hello Blue. A little over a month later, I, Colossus got the chance to open for Brooklyn's Matt and Kim at the Triple Rock Social Club. Ampersand's next performance was December 30th at the 7th Street Entry. This performance was important for two reasons : first, it marked the debut of Noah Paster, Matt's former bandmate from both Aneuretical and the disbanded Voice-Activated Shotgun, on drums. And secondly, this was a benefit show for Matt and Noah's former classmate and former Voice-Activated Shotgun bandmate Shamus Helgeson, who had unfortunately passed away earlier that month. In January of 2007 Ampersand decided to change their name to I, Colossus live on Radio K during an in-studio performance on "Off The Record". In November 2007, the band released their first full-length album, which was self-titled "I, Colossus". The CD debuted at #139 on the CMJ Top 200 charts and #40 on the RPM Top 40 charts - and within 2 weeks jumped up to #76 on the CMJ Top 200 charts.

The band completed a Midwest tour to North Dakota, Iowa, Missouri and Nebraska in January 2008.
