History
Founded in 1972, the Minnesota Chorale is the Principal Chorus of the Minnesota Orchestra. Led by Kathy Saltzman Romey since 1995, the Chorale is best known for its work with the Twin Cities' two major orchestras.
The Chorale's Bridges series was established in 1994 to build musical and social bridges to diverse populations. Under the organization's Full Voice education program, Chorale singers make regular visits to high schools with limited resources, and hundreds of students attend open rehearsals and concerts each year. The Chorale's InChoir program is a series of open rehearsals, offering audience members an in-depth look at works being rehearsed by the Chorale.
For three years, the Chorale was chorus-in-residence at the Aspen Music Festival. It has presented concerts with the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional in Mexico City, and represented the United States at the America Cantat III festival in Caracas, Venezuela.
Members
Led by artistic director Kathy Saltzman Romey and accompanist/artistic advisor Barbara Brooks, the Minnesota Chorale rehearses year-round.
The chorale's active roster includes approximately 250 singers. Depending on the performing forces required for a particular concert, ensemble sizes range from 40 to over 200 voices.
Chorale singers live in communities throughout the Twin Cities metro area, greater Minnesota and Wisconsin.
