History

More Than Lights is a band of musicians, vocalists, and emcees based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Although the forefront of the band is held by legendary Minneapolis Hip-Hop veterans Unicus & New MC of Kanser, it's the live instruments and the vocals behind them that really gives this band a unique flavor. Their sound represents the unique, soulful Hip-Hop that the Midwest is known, and admired, for. The beautiful and talented Natalie Fine offers the perfect vocal support for that soulful sound and her rhythmic qualities weave in out of Unicus & New MC's playful rhyme schemes with ease. The live instruments are provided by the steady rhythm section of Corey Hess (Percussion), Christopher Hunnicutt (Bass Guitar/Vocals), Matiu Unga (Electric Guitar/Vocals), and Joshua "Jellyfish" Holmgren (Keyboards/Saxophone/Vocals).

The versatility that live Hip-Hop demands has allowed More Than Lights to gain a fan base that stretches beyond genres or scenes. They've been proving this all over the U.S. with their high-energy live shows while sharing the stage with acts like The Black Eyed Peas, Lyrics Born, KRS-One, Goodie Mob, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Sage Francis, Jean Grae, Brother Ali, Doomtree, Heiruspecs, and most of the many other talented musicians that make up the local Twin Cities music scene and beyond.

Press

"As "More Than Lights" busts out the tunes, all eyes are on Zach. The funny thing is his spotlight frequency is minimal, if not equal to his band mates, who include an outstanding guitar prodigy, a Lauryn Hill sound-alike and a pristine rhythm section. " - Drew Nelson (Mankato University paper 11/10/08)

"If R&B fell in love with Soul and had a baby named Funk...and Funk went and Funkdafied a lovely girl named Hip-Hop and had yet ANOTHER baby that rapped... that baby would be named More Than Lights." - City Pages

"Pleasant is the way they start this Album wasting no time getting to the good stuff. The first song you hear almost makes you sit up in your seat with a positive feeling. The two veteran members of Kanser brought the summertime vibe early this year making the ultimate soundtrack for spring.
