History

The Oak Center General Store was originally established in 1913, under the name "The Country Store". Operations halted in the 1950s; the land was left unattended. In the 70s, the Schwen family took over the store, as well as the 14 acre farm that went with it. They named the store after the short stretch of highway 63 that is Oak Center, and they have been farming the land, runnning a CSA program(community supported agriculture), selling fresh organic produce at the rochester & lake city farmers markets every summer, and running the "Folk Forum" during the off-season (Oct-April). Some of most talented local and national artists have been playing this venue for 30+ years. Each year there is an incredible mixture of returning musicians, as well as some new blood. if you're ever passing through Oak Center on your way between Rochester and Lake City, stop by the Oak Center General Store - check out a concert - you'll never see anything quite like it anywhere else.
