Profane Existence is a Minneapolis-based punk rock collective that has operated a range of projects including a record label, distribution service, and magazine "with the common goal of contributing to build a stronger and more politically active punk rock movement." The group often cooperates with others around the world involved with political activism, silkscreen printing, a book and publishing press, record trading and production, and information about worldwide punk rock movements.

History

Formed in 1989, the collective's first project was the magazine, which continues to be distributed worldwide through punk and underground channels, with a circulation of over 20,000 copies per issue. Over 40 issues have been published in all. In 1994, the collective contributed to the formation of Extreme Noise Records in Minneapolis. Due to financial problems during the late 1990s, the group disbanded and published what was to be the final issue of the magazine in 1998. Some of the members formed Blackened Distribution in order to keep the catalog of records in circulation after that. Articles and pamphlets were often included with the mail order materials and in 2000, another issue of PE magazine was produced with 10,000 copies going worldwide. By 2003, the PE label was also back in production.
