History
Prozac Rat started in 1997. Noah Smith, a Freshman in high school, asked his elder cousin Dietr Poppen to be in his band "Prozac Rat." Assuming he was joking, Dietr agreed. After a few years it became less of a joke and more like an obsession, as the two continued writing original songs through college, and adopted their monikers Noah Daniel Smith: The Greatest Man On Earth (NDSTGMOE) and Mr. Dietr. Dietr was in Brookings, SD, while Noah attended school in Moorhead, MN. Live shows were infrequent, and usually consisted of two acoustic guitars, or occasionally electric instruments with a pre-recorded rhythm section. The band would record whenever they were in the same state, with some albums coming together over the course of six or seven years, while other albums would be written, recorded, and mixed in a weekend. Dietr moved to the Twin Cities in the Fall of 2005, followed by Noah the following Spring. The two pieced together a cozy home studio and continued recording, and recruited yet another cousin, Christopher Smith, to play bass for their developing live show. Since then the group has played frequently around the Twin Cities and beyond. Their live sound has been complimented and completed by the addition of live drummer Aaron Clarksean.
