History

Purest Spiritual Pigs exists somewhere on the darker side of rock and was begun by Helena Thompson as a vehicle for music and multi-media collaboration. The recent release of a self-titled EP, marks the first major project for PSP. All songs on it were written, played, and recorded by Helena Thompson, with the exception of "Picking Myself Up", on which Lenny Gonzalez (Chango Feo) interpreted and played guitar. Helena's plan for the future of Purest Spiritual Pigs, is to expand the project to include and involve many additional collaborative artists. In addition to promoting this CD, Helena is currently working on a live solo performance and a collaboration involving several different Minneapolis choreographers.

Prior to forming Purest Spiritual Pigs, Helena worked both in solo projects and as a drummer for several bands on both the East and West coasts. In her solo project, One Human, Helena's music made it to #2 on East coast college radio charts. One Human opened for major acts such as: Nina Hagen, Throwing Muses, Fred Frith and Zero Pop. Helena also played drums for Her Majesty the Baby, a successful San Francisco indie band. Her Majesty the Baby worked with producer Lenny Kaye (former guitarist of The Patti Smith Group), and performed at SXSW, San Francisco Battle Of The Bands, and opened for PJ Harvey, Poi Dog Pondering and The Pixies.
