History
- Expansive pop tunes that could burst the clouds and break your heart. Rebel Yellow is a young band from Minneapolis with a sound so deep and developed, you'd swear they've been around for years. At its heart are Brad Weller and Tracy T. Weller, two expats lured to the city by punk rock; he, from northern Pennsylvania, and she, from the outskirts of Duluth. Brad played in Brown Star and later formed Hickey Party. Tracy joined Hickey Party and the two became inseparable. After Hickey Party, Tracy played and sang in the Psychedelicates, while Brad wrote songs and played guitar in the basement, among other diversions. Rebel Yellow formed in 2003 and Brad's smart, straightforward songs are out for everyone to hear. The thrill is the same as uncovering your soon-to-be-favorite new local band in the 45-bin during a rainy Saturday afternoon spent among the racks at the late, great Northern Lights on the corner of 7th Street and Hennepin Avenue, a spot where Brad once schlepped records. personnel: Brad Weller, Tracy T. Weller recordings: three-song EP, recorded at Ed Ackerson's Flowers Studio songs: 1) Sunny Day 2) Love Gong 3) Blown Out players: Peter Anderson / ex-Polara, Ed Ackerson / Polara, Mark Pakulski / ex-Prosthetica and The Psychedelicates, Chad Gilman
