Rev105, "Revolution Radio", was an influential independent commercial radio station at 105.1, 105.3 and 105.7 FM in the Twin Cities during the early to mid 1990s. The station gave exposure to numerous local musicians. Rev105 was sold to ABC/Disney in a national wave of radio consolidation that eliminated virtually all independent commercial stations.

History

Rev105 was a relatively free format rock, alternative and pop station operating in the Twin Cities during the 1990s. In addition to various specialty shows, Rev105 also invited area high schoolers to come in on Saturday mornings to select their own music, a show known as Rock 'n' Rock Homeroom.

The station was created to fill the void left by independent Modern Rock station KJ104, which went off the air in September of 1992. Rev 105 went on the air in May of 1993 after a full weekend of free-form radio and no DJs.

Rev105 was sold to ABC/Disney in a national wave of radio consolidation that eliminated virtually all independent commercial stations. The station became a focal point for critics of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 when it was purchased by Disney/Capitol Cities/ABC and changed formats. Fans of REV-105 banded together to protest the action, and the group Americans for Radio Diversity was formed. The purchase received fairly widespread news coverage, with articles appearing in Billboard magazine and Rolling Stone.

A number of Rev105 DJs are now on the staff of MPR's 89.3 The Current
