History

The Roseville Big Band was founded in 1964 by Dr Mark Lammers. It has been sponsored by the Roseville Parks and Recreation Department from that time to the present.

The Roseville Big Band is a 19-piece ensemble composed entirely of volunteers. The Roseville Big Band typically plays for dances at events such as charity fundraisers, class reunions, wedding receptions and USO-style hangar dances.

Although its repertoire consists primarily of swing tunes, the band performs ballads and Latin-influenced numbers as well. Best known for arrangements of 20th-century favorites, the band also performs an original song, “Dance to the Big Band Swing”, composed by band director Glen Newton. This original song has become a signature piece for the Roseville Big Band.

The Roseville Big Band’s presence is frequently augmented by the Rosetones, a quartet who add four-part vocal harmonies to the band’s instrumentation.
