History

Formed in 1998, the name Selby Tigers came from a street in St. Paul and a radio broadcast about a Sri Lankan army called the Tamil Tigers.

The group's original lineup was Arzu Gokcen on guitar and vocals, Gocken's then-husband Nate Grumdahl on second guitar, Nicole Gerber on bass, and Dave Gatchell on drums. Gerber left the group after the recording of the band's debut EP. She was replaced by musician and recording engineer Dave Gardner, who had recorded the EP in question. Gardner adopted the persona of a Frenchman, Sammy G, while playing in the group.

After the release of their second EP and multiple tours, the band was picked up by Southern California punk label Hopeless Records, home also to fellow Twin Cities punk band Dillinger Four. Tours with the likes of Alkaline Trio and Rocket From the Crypt followed.

Selby Tigers broke up in 2003.
