History

Skoal Kodiak was formed in 2005 by Marcus Lunkenheimer (Quad Muth), Brady Lenzen (Noise Quean Ant, Seawhores) and Freddy Votel (Seawhores, Cows, TVBC).

Their debut LP, Three People Are Keep Having Grape Emergencys, was self-released in 2007 on vinyl only. The final track on each side of the record was etched in backwards, forcing the listener to place their turntable's needle in the final groove (nearest the center of the record), at which point the needle would move outward to play the song.

In 2011, their second album, Kryptonym Bodliak, was released on the Chicago-based label Load Records. The press release for the album offered this description: "Echoes of the hard funk jut up against Mars Rover squelch to create something totally timeless and new but also borne of a future so toxic that there is no escaping."[1].
