About

Small Kitchen Appliances is a ska band from the Twin Cities that formed in 2006 and exploded onto the scene with an amazing first show for such an early date. The first show was played at the TC Underground, which is a venue on Lake Street. The band did better than anyone was expecting, and kept the crowd happy and dancing the night away.
The band is making waves in the Minnesota music scene with exciting live shows, getting kicked out of a venue, obscene swearing in lyrics, and notorious fighting/brawling in public. (except mike erler)

They guarentee their music to "...kick your ass so hard, you'll get up and dance without knowing it." They consider a succesful show exposing ska to more people, and getting more and more people to listen to the never-dying genre. Drummer RJ White says "...if we can get a total stranger to like our music and draw attention to ska music, we consider that a successful show, no matter whom we offend, displease, or upset in the process."

Line Ups/Downs

They have had several line-up changes due to schedule conflicts, non-punctual members, and other various problems. The current line-up of the band is as follows...

Mike Erler-Alto Sax
Robin Lane-Bass
Steve Lewer-Vocals
R.J. White-Drums
Kabel Lefto-Guitar
Aren Frymire-Tenor Sax
Alex Bantle-Trombone
Donna Barden-Trumpet
Allie Snodie-Keyboard

The members above are listed in order of joining the band. Mike Erler and Robin Lane are the only original members left in the lineup, but Steve Lewer, R.J. White, and Kabel Lefto were all in the band's first show. Donna Barden and Allie Snodie were recently added as of fall 2006 and are the first girls to become part of Small Kitchen Appliances. Previous members that were in the band include...

Alex Murphy-Trumpet
Zac VanCleve-Trombone
Mike Francomb-Trombone
Ben Stassen-Drums
Maurice Martinez-Trumpet
AJ Zamora-Guitar
Peter Karns-Guitar

Peter Karns gets credit for playing in the first show, and helping write some music. AJ Zamora gets credit for writing guitar for "You Suck", and Alex Murphy gets credit for being in the band the shortest amount of time (roughly two 1/2 practices), and getting punched in the face in that amount of time.

Shows

October 28th, 2006 @ TC Underground
The band's first show. Was not a very big success and it didn't established a name for the band.

November 11th, 2006 @ The Garage
The band was approached by booking from The Garage to play there, and was treated like animals, and the set was cut in the middle of the show. For more information, see the blog on their MySpace.
