History
St. Olaf College is a ELCA Lutheran-affiliated liberal arts college located in Northfield, Minnesota. Founded in 1874, the school offers an education "committed to the liberal arts, rooted in the Christian gospel and incorporating a global perspective."
St. Olaf is notable on the music scene for a number of reasons. Firstly, it was the home of WCAL, a publicly owned radio station, for 82 years before it was purchased by Minnesota Public Radio and converted to 89.3 The Current. Secondly, it is the home for three internationally-renowned classical music ensembles: the St. Olaf Band, the St. Olaf Orchestra, and the St. Olaf Choir. Finally, St. Olaf's diverse and talented student population is the breeding ground for many bands and musical groups who have found success outside of Northfield.
