History
The director of bands at Willmar Jr. High School is Mr. Steve Trochlil. Mr. Trochlil received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota, where he performed in the University Saxophone Quartet, Jazz Ensemble, and the University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Mr. Frank Bencriscutto. He graduated in 1986.
Mr. Trochlil taught for one year in the Catholic school system of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, where he taught 5-12 grade band in three different schools. He was also director of the jazz band, pit orchestra, and pep band. Outside of school, he played keyboards in the local dance band, "Premiere."
In summer of 1988, he was invited to come back to his home town of Willmar to teach 7th Grade band. The next year Mr. Trochlil moved to the Sr. High, where he stayed for the next 17 years, heading up the pep band, jazz band, pit orchestra, marching band, and two concert bands. He also played drums in the local dance band, "Front Page."
Mr. Trochlil moved back to the Jr. High School in 2005. He is a 1981 graduate of Willmar High School and currently lives North of Willmar with his wife, Ann, and their four boys. He also teaches piano and performs regularly at Vinje Church in Willmar. He is a member of MMEA, MENC, and MBDA.
