History

Growing up in the Midwest, the sisters developed a deep relationship with music at early ages. The Ericksons formally took shape in 2006 when Bethany and Jenny began performing at venues in and around New York City. Playing as often as they could, they continually wrote and gave life to new songs.

Those songs soon became The Ericksons’ debut album Middle of the Night. They recorded the entire album live in a Brooklyn, NY basement studio, enlisting only an upright bass for backing.

Since releasing Middle of the Night in 2008, The Ericksons have played shows across the country.

In 2010, The Ericksons reunited with the Midwest. They entered Smart Studios in Madison in March where they recorded tracks that would become their sophomore record, don’t be scared, don’t be alarmed. The album represented an evolution of the duo’s sound, adding an undercurrent of rhythm from percussion and electric bass, and a host of moving accents from organs, piano, and even electric guitar.

Since moving to Minnesota The Ericksons have been named Womenfolk Find of the Month on KFAI Radio Without Boundaries, played in MPR’s Studio M and Cities ’97’s Studio C.
