History
Mark Edwards originally created the OME project in 2002 as an experiment with live sound, specifically revolving around creating indie pop alone on stage utilizing several loopers. The idea was to "track" every song from the ground up, using no pre-sampled sounds. Rather than focus on the more traditional ambient music most commonly associated with solo guys and loopers, he honed in on writing pop songs first, and making the technology work second.
Over the years the live setup has changed a bit, sometimes bringing in live players, sometimes going it alone with the robots. After playing bass on most of the 'Tired Birds' sessions, Luke Albertson officially joined the project to help hold down the low end. Now, both Mark and Luke hit the stage armed with guitars, several noise makers and drum machines.
The OME studio recordings have been more polished affairs. Although some of the songs were largely based on the looped versions of the songs (The Doom Loop, Wish I Could See Your Film, 20th Century Boy), many others were more "traditional" verse/chorus numbers. Recorded in a basement studio, the two albums 'Rewind Tomorrow' (2004) and 'The Doom Loop' (2007) garnered much praise in the independent music circles and have charted well on the national college radio charts.
The latest OME album, 'Tired Birds' was released on October 12, 2010 through Princess Records.
RECENT PRESS
"Soul-crushingly beautiful and jarring in just the right places, OME is one of our very favorites on the local scene." - L'Etoile
"The Original Mark Edwards is arguably the most talented tech-driven pop musician in the Twin Cities." - METRO Magazine
"While there's no shortage of one-man band's tinkering away in their basements with samplers and synthesizers here in the Twin Cities, few can match the OME in sheer sonic splendor. Songs like lead single "Soul on Fire," cross icy and efficient minimalist New Wave instrumentation with stacked-to-the-heavens "Pet-Sounds" inspired harmonies, resulting in a truly alluring hybrid of classic and modern pop." - Metromix
