History

Local legend has it that The Owls first performed at a house party in early winter 2001. Their first radio airplay was in September 2003, when Radio K put their (then unreleased) demo into heavy rotation to promote a show. Within three weeks, May's song, "Air" went to number one locally before it was ever released. Their first EP entitled "Our Hopes and Dreams" came out on Magic Marker Records in February 2004 to rave reviews.

Brian Tighe (of The Hang Ups) and Alison LaBonne (The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group) were the humble beginnings of The Owls, but they recruited songwriter Maria May (solo) and drummer John Jerry (The Ashtray Hearts, Diamonds) into their fold. Initial performances also included Stephen Ittner, former drummer of the Hang Ups who left the band in 2004.
