History
The group formed in Minneapolis in 1962 and recorded at first as Jim Thaxter and The Travellers on long defunct Minneapolis label Ariel Records.
Their breakthrough came with their recording "Surfin' Bird" in 1963. It reached #4 on the Billboard charts.Surfin' Bird (their only real hit) helped define the surfing music subgenre, which is somewhat ironic for a band who lived over 1000 miles/1610 km from the sea.
