History
Date Opened: June 1, 2003
The Twin Cities Underground was a youth center on Lake Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota for 12 to 21 year olds. It was a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity run by volunteers. The youth volunteers had weekly meetings to discuss and vote on all aspects of operation, and adults had a minimum impact on operation.
The main activity was music and spoken word on Friday and Saturday nights, although other activities such as art shows, video screenings, and work shops were also organized through the center. Things were made to be as youth-friendly as possible, with a low admission charge and a safe, drug-free environment.
In August 2005, the Underground sponsored a day long music festival on Lake Street, with youth bands headlining. Since the center opened in 2003, over 6,500 youth have attended events at TC Underground.
The TC Underground is now closed.
