History
Western Fifth recorded their shambling, country-tinged debut EP (2006 Small Fridge Records) in a single weekend during the winter of 2006. Lasting nearly a day and a half, the mostly improvised sessions were tracked by the three founding members (Ryan Holweger, Ryan Jacobson, and Jon Wurm) along with a couple of guests musicians.
The band started playing shows at various venues around the Twin Cities in the summer of 2006 as a four piece band. Soon after, multi-instrumentalist and Twin Cities music vet Thomas Case was added to the lineup, embellishing the songs with lap steel guitar, mandolin, and Wurlitzer.
Western Fifth released it's first full-length record, "Stand Like A Thief", on November 11th, 2008. It has been getting airplay at various radio stations throughout the midwest, as well as numerous countries in Europe, including The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, The UK, France, Spain & Italy.
The group has played at a number of local music venues, including the 7th Street Entry, 400 Bar, Hexagon Bar, Big V's, Terminal Bar, Turf Club, Triple Rock, Uptown Bar, The Triple Rock, and First Avenue Mainroom. They have toured throughout the Upper Midwest, and other states such as Illionois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Kansas, & Missouri.
