2024 Records
From Minnewiki
History
Throughout years of basement shows, broken down van tours, and sleeping on luxurious floors cushioned with dog hair, thoughts of starting a record label occasionally entered the heads of the responsible parties. Until early this century, good sense and fiscal foresight prevented such thoughts from coming to fruition.
As he stepped into a now defunct recording studio, the cold winter air of December 2001 may have impaired Nathan's judgment. He listened to the sounds of Standbye through the studio monitors in one ear. The other heard the band lamenting that the record would never see the light of day. He smiled, and a sequence of events was set in motion.
- "What does that stand for?"
You see, several friends occupied a certain dwelling with an address of 2024 in Uptown Minneapolis for a few years. To memorialize those unexplainable times, and mostly because no one could think of anything better at 3 a.m. the day the first album's artwork was due, a quorum of nods created 2024 Records.
So yeah, it's not Pumping Bleeding Heart Valve Recordings or anything we fretted over or hired an advertising agency for. It's just a number connected to good times with friends. Some say it sounds futuristic. Others think of eye prescriptions.
Whatever the connotation, the guiding premise from the start was not unlike that of many other independent labels. To treat artists fairly and make their music available to as many people as possible.
And that's what we're doing. Whether it's traveling to industry gatherings like CMJ and SXSW or just down the street to hoist Summits and hear local bands, we're dedicated to going the distance and helping the best artists reach their potential. Thanks for your interest and support...
