History
Heiruspecs are Saint Paul hip-hop group. They formed in 1997 while the members were in a recording arts program at Central High School. Their name is a misspelling of "Haruspex," which was a type of seer in ancient Rome. They claim to be a very innovative band, saying they have "steadily broken down preconceived notions of live hip hop by refusing to regurgitate the same old sounds you’ve heard before, and knock you upside the head with their impressive array of funk, soul and hard-hitting beats" 1. They also pride themselves in their live shows, where they don't use samples to make their music.
Heiruspecs are probably best known for their full touring schedule. According to their website, they have been on tour for 150 days of the year. They frequently back Atmosphere, and have opened for a variety of acts including Jurassic 5, The Coup, Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, The White Stripes, Typical Cats, Mason Jennings, Blonde Redhead, Anti-Pop Consortium, David Cross, and Busta Rhymes.
