History

The band October was formed in 1992 for a talent show at Gustavus Adolphus College. While the trio was clamoring for a name before the show began, members Andrew Benson and Nik Lindell discovered they shared a birthday, October 2nd, and thus the band was named. The members included Nik Lindell (Drums), Brian Rowe (Bass), Andrew Benson (aka Andrew Benon) (Guitar, Vocals) and also played together in the Gustavus Jazz Band. When members of October graduated in 1995, they migrated to the Twin Cities where they played regularly until they broke up in 2000. For a period of time in the late 90's the band had a regular Sunday night slot at the Fine Line Music Cafe that was dubbed "the Healthy Alternative to the Greazy Meal" in reference to the shows the band Greazy Meal was doing across town at the Cabooze on the same night.

October's early sound was sparse, reggae and jazz influenced pop. As the band evolved the sound became darker and more lush, recalling Pink Floyd and Radiohead. The band released one record in 1999 entitled "Siren" which included 10 songs and a 20 minute animated video featuring artwork by Nat Johnson. The record was produced by Alex Oana and recorded at Seedy Underbelly and Alex Oana's City Cabin.
