History
“Its fun music for happy times,” proclaims the mission statement of the indie-pop band The Hopefuls. The group, which was known as the Olympic Hopefuls until they got big enough to scare the Olympic Committee, is comprised of an all-star cast of local Minnesota musicians.
What started as an experimental side project between Erik Appelwick (Vicious Vicious) and Darren Jackson (Kid Dakota) has now blossomed into one of the Twin Cities’ favorite breakout bands. Their ringing power chords and effervescent melodies are the sort that stick with you for days, and the lyrics are clever enough that the catchiness isn’t bothersome.
Following the success of their hit album “The Fuses Refuse to Burn,” the Hopefuls have gained a devoted fan base and have begun catching national attention. Their music has been heard on VH1’s Best Week Ever and the Fox teen drama The OC, and their recent name scandal has created quite a buzz in the press.
