Zoo Animal is a Minneapolis band formed in January of 2008. It started from Holly Hansen’s (vocals, guitar) need for a bassist and drummer to perform her solo material. Long-time friend Tim Abramson obliged to play bass, and Al Swenson, a fellow community college student, agreed to play drums. After the experience of playing with a band, Holly wished to become a band. With that, she named it Zoo Animal and they embarked on the journey that gave birth the the album, "Young Blood." The material for "Young Blood" was written mostly in the early winter of 2007 and recorded in February/May of 2008 with Darren Jackson (Kid Dakota, The Hopefuls) at Shortman Studio. They released it in July 19, 2008.

"Holly Hansen has been a local favorite of ours for quite a while now. Her solo album, “Buildings,” full of Kimya Dawson/Shelby Sifers-esque minimalist indie-lullabies, was a great introduction to her quaint musicianship and blessed, angel-like voice. We were pretty upset when we heard news that she gave this act up and started a three piece band, fearing that the outcome of involving other members would somehow fail the unreasonably high expectations we hold for Ms. Hansen.

It didn’t, and thank the heavens for the album we got out of it.
